#BlackinInorganic #BlackInChem My research in the @RagognaGroup focuses on the synthesis of new phosphine ligands using hydrophosphination reactions (1/n).
One of the projects I'm currently working on focuses on the radical addition and ring opening of vinylcyclopropane. This work is pretty cool and recently I was one of the recipients of the @DaltonTrans poster award in the #GIDW2020 poster competition (2/n).

Here's the poster (sorry I haven't figured out a way to attach old Tweets to new threads): #BlackInChem #BlackinInorganic

Because of the nature of my research projects, I have to work with air sensitive and pyrophoric compounds. So I have to work in the glovebox and work with a cool Schlenk line (4/n).

Funny thing is I didn't originally major in chemistry and actually majored in biology. I actually hated chemistry but realized that biology wasn't for me by my second year. I just hated memorizing things. (5/n) #BlackInChem #BlackinInorganic
Fortunately, enrolling in an organic chemistry course taught by Prof. @BryanKoivisto, in addition to meeting my mentor Jennifer Huynh (to the left in the blue sweater) made me realize that chemistry is awesome. (6/n). #BlackInChem #BlackinInorganic
I switched majors near the end of my second year, and as you can see from the above post, I was fortunate to be apart of the Koivisto group during my 3rd year in undergrad. I even managed to contribute to a publication with the group. (7/n) #BlackInChem

During my 4th and 5th year, I was supervised by Prof. Robert Gossage. While in the Gossage group I synthesized oxazoline ligands, and coordinated these compounds to palladium and nickel. We shared a lab with the Foucher group so we had a pretty good time (8/n) #BlackInChem
With the Gossage group, I got my first first author paper (link is at the bottom) and managed to contribute to other people's work too. I also realized that I wanted to be in academia (9/n). #BlackInChem #BlackinInorganic

I look forward to continuously contributing to the inorganic chemistry community and can't wait to share more of my work in the future!!! Oh I don't really have a favourite transition metal yet but I'll say nickel. (10/10) #BlackInChem #BlackinInorganic
