so who wants to talk about how golden is a response to ready to run
no i’m not saying harry wrote golden as a response to ready to run on purpose before people come for me, i just wanna talk about the similar themes
louis wrote ready to run when their enemy narrative was in full swing and also while harry was gradually becoming more progressive. he’d say things like “not that important” and started picking up flags and stuff, and ready to run has strong themes of one person being open and +
the other kinda falling short and not being able to catch up, hence the lyrics “there’s a lightening in your eyes i can’t deny, then there’s me inside a sinking boat running out of time” aka harry is open and louis is not
the lyrics “there’s no way you can change the rolling tide” also implies that things are moving too quickly and you can’t change that, which pertains to that same theme of openness vs. being scared
the fact that the song says i’m ready to run BECAUSE i want to be yours says a lot, as if louis can’t be harrys if he’s not ready to be as forward-moving as him
“there will always be the kind to criticise” is another good lyric lining up with this whole theme and the judgement of a relationship
then of course in golden harry is saying the same thing “i know that you’re scared because hearts get broken” and “i know that you’re scared because i’m so open” and him literally pleading not to be left alone
theres a lot of theme parallels in their music but the one in these two songs haunts me LIKE. sigh. these boys
side note i know that liam wrote on ready to run too but he said himself that louis does lyrics and he does melodies that’s what im going off of end of thread 🧵
