Through 8/9 in NYC, more of the same new horrible normal: 57 shootings last week (up 185% from last year)
240 last 28 days (up 153%)
1,017 yr to date (up 85% and more than all of last year)

But why so glum? There are 5,273 fewer reported grand larcenies. Overall crime is down!
Though 8/16, the new more bang bang NYC is becoming normalized, at a level ~2.5 times higher than last year.

Shootings last week 2.6X higher (vs last year)
Shootings last 28 days 2.4X higher.
Shootings year to date up 88.5%. (1,095 people shot.)
Murders year to date up 30%
Through 8/26/20, the new more violent NYC continues, edging a bit worse.
NYC Shooting last 28 days up 2.6X compared to 2019.
Year-to-date there have been _twice_ as many shooting victims compared as this time, last year.
Murders are up 50% last 28 days, 35% year to date.
Not how the violence is not everywhere. You looking at Brooklyn. Half of Brooklyn had no shootings last month. But the half that has shootings has a whole lot more. And the racial disparities are extreme.
NYC murders so far this year up 35%. Will end around 40% - 45% higher than 2019.
Going back to 1963 (where my data start), the largest annual % increase in murders was 32%, in 1968. And again up 31% in 1971. And yes, that became the new normal for 20 years.
Shootings up so much, so quickly, has never happened before. The odds of things improving just as fast are slim. The largest 1-year NYC decline in murder was 25%, in 1995. As they say (or maybe it's just me), "It's hard to put that whoop ass back in the can."
Last week 67 people were shot in NYC. Up from 57 the week before. But the real issue is up from 29 this week last year.
Last 28 days shootings are up 177% (vs last year).
Year-to-date is now just nearly double (96% up) compared to last year.
Last week 52 people were shot in NYC. The rate of increase has slowed ever so slightly, last 28 days is up only(?) 2.7X vs. last year. Year to date is still double. (up 97% up)
Murders are up 35% yr-to-date and 49% last month.
Picture is shootings victims, this year and last.
Slight optimism last week was unwarranted. Last week 5X more shootings than last year (59 vs 12). Last 28 days is triple last year. And that's basically where we're at.
NYC shootings have tripled since the protests.
255 shootings is the most this time period since 1995.
Weekly NYC update. Thru 9/20.
Shootings 2.5X last year, which is actually trending a bit in down direction.
Last 28 days up 2.7X.
Year to date is now officially more than double. 1,383 people shot in 1,123 shootings incidents. https://compstat.nypdonline.org
Last week Staten Island had more murders (3) than any other borough! (1 each in Queens, Bronx, Manhattan) So there's that rare and pointless fact.
Thru 9/27/20, past week is actually good news! (Just?) 34 shootings victims, same as last year! This brings the year-to-date back down to, well, just under double. I did actually hope/predict this 10 days ago. Arrest gun offenders, people! It matters. https://twitter.com/PeterMoskos/status/1308151381728075779
