I have deeply mixed feelings about all the demonstrative mourning over @mozilla's recent layoffs. On one hand, great that MDN helped you in a time of need but many of you didn't come back. It's great that you gave Firefox a shot but switched to Chrome to use Hangouts. (thread)
2/ Creating good things requires good people and money. The true price of products on the internet is not well known to the consumers of those products. If you are reading this, know that you're likely to be a whale to an ad platform somewhere. Think about the other pillars of
/3 tech, civil society, you name it, that are crumbling because we have been trained not to pay for things. What's done is done, but there are other things you can support with your attention and money. Free as in beer isn't free.
4/ I am proud to have worked as a Mozillian for so long and wish for the best for those on the #mozillalifeboat. These are hard times but if I would bet on anyone to land on their feet, it would be them.
5/ Be the customer, not the product.
