Today I’m fighting for #AbortionAccess4All by virtually lobbying my elected officials to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act with @NCJW, @allaboveall, and the #ActForWomen campaign! Why is WHPA so important for abortion access? Thread:
WHPA protects the rights of pregnant people to access abortion care free from bans, obstacles, & medically unnecessary restrictions that other health care services don’t require. By removing these double standards…
...WHPA guarantees health care providers the right to deliver abortion care without limitations that make abortion more difficult to access. WHPA also creates guidance for courts considering whether or not a certain requirement for abortion impedes access to care.
All people deserve the right to access abortion care in a timely, safe, and affirming manner, and WHPA can help us get there. WHPA protects #AbortionAccess4All! #ActforWomen
The EACH Woman Act ends restrictions on who can use their federal insurance to cover the cost of an abortion procedure. You may have heard of the Hyde Amendment, a significant barrier to #AbortionAccess4All for more than 40 years.
Hyde and related coverage bans block those enrolled in federal health programs using their insurance to pay abortion care. BIPOC communities & those struggling to make ends meet--who are disproportionately impacted by Hyde--deserve better.
As our country grapples with systemic racism & state violence against BIPOC communities, we hope that Congress recognizes the Hyde Amendment’s removal and other restrictions on reproductive health as a racial justice issue.
