Thread: how to Restart Smart.
Controlling the #SARSCoV2 pandemic is far from over. Therefore, it goes without saying that our daily lives need to adapt to a *New Normal*, so that our society & economy safely resume through smart strategies.
1/
There's no single recipe for success, with myriads of factors and directions to consider.
However, recent experience has revealed areas & pillars upon which we need locally-tailored work & strategies, to gradually & safely resume our activities.
2/
These span from governance to organizational and individual level.

Here's my take on how we can *Restart Smart*:
3/
Smart socializing: reduce social interactions (close contacts, close social circle, going to social events/parties etc) to two-thirds of what you'd be doing a year ago. "Screen" an event before going - safety comes first. Stay in a *social bubble*, esp. when cases increase.
4/
Smart distancing: work your mind to keep physical distancing & personal hygiene in all instances, incl.avoiding high-touch surfaces. Plan your personal activities by keeping distances & a minimum nr of persons. Be an example and inspire your peers.
5/
Smart masking: use #facemasks esp. in closed/crowded spaces and poor ventilation, use #faceshields when difficult to use masks, educate public on correct use, maintain high availability of masks.
6/
Smart teaching: open based on local epi, remote/hybrid/asynchronous learning when possible, small group teaching wt distancing & novel technologies, schedule expansion, clustering of students/educators, regular training on personal protection, devise high/low risk scenarios.
7/
Smart working: roster staff, expand work schedule, group staff (& assign backup personnel), work from home when&where possible, prefer online over f2f meetings & events, enforce communication, inform regularly (eg.wkly updates), promote health, update rapid response protocols.
8/
Smart testing: contact tracing &isolation, test all symptomatics & high risk groups & areas (eg.travellers), sample test guided by local epi, use supplementary rapid (screening) tests for specific groups (eg.students, teachers, employees, vulnerable, travellers after arrival).
9/
Smart travelling: decrease travels (eg. no conferences), avoid non-essential travels, use country & regional categorization, test travellers, after travelling avoid close contacts & be vigilant for symptoms, adjust airports to reduce crowding & help quick movement & turnover.
10/
Smart healthcare: set health priorities across all disciplines (not only ID), allocate staff in high-risk depts & incl.backup, educate regularly on PPE, promote vaccination (esp. HCW), enforce primary healthcare, address burnout & psychology, ensure supplies & infrastructure.
11/
Smart communication: set goals, use influencers for PH messages, use broad social media coverage for crisis comm, inform public openly & regularly, promote expert opinion in media, seek & acknowledge expert & public input in decisions, discourage fear, panic or conflicts.
12/
Smart risk assessment (which is smart anyway): perform regular risk assessments and revise practices, devise rapid responses for positive cases, allocate resources to maintain business health & continuity - adjusted to short- & mid- term goals.
13/
Smart industry: although smart working & risk assessment directly apply here too, there are specific measures dep.on area & industry type: detect high-risk spaces & activities, educate & inform staff, roster staff, adjust infrastructure, address suppliers/vendors/visitors.
14/
Smart collaboration: involve experts & public/patients in decisions, promote interdisciplinary approaches to PH strategies, seek international collaboration esp.with neighboring states & those with common goals or similar epi, seek intnl expertise when local isn't available.
