Broke: Digimon was just a ripoff of Pokemon.

Woke: Digimon was the better of the two shows.

Bespoke: Pokemon sought idyllic escapism while Digimon was a lens to discuss issues that affect kids. Therefore, despite similar names and concepts, they are too different to compare.
This popped into my head at 3 am and had been all I can think about since.
Rewatching the old series as an adult has made it much clearer to me that I gravitated to it because I was six and my parents were getting divorced and I didn't know how to handle it, and here was a show that acknowledged that sad things happen and it's okay to grieve about them.
...but also that the best way to move forward is to keep a strong support structure around you and learn how to find and embrace your strengths in overcoming life's challenges.

That personally spoke to me more than Pokemon's escapism to a world where the good guys always win.
But I also know people who have said the opposite, that a fixed point where (mostly) nothing bad happens and the world is simpler was really helpful for them when they were going through tough times.

Anyway, if you've never given Digimon a chance please do but also just be cool.
