i am actually very against the 5 day work week model. ive said something along these lines before but i strongly believe we have enough people and enough resources for the collective population to only have to work 2-3 days a week with liveable wages & benefits.
for every 5 days a week we work, we are expected to get all housework, miscellaneous responsibilities, exercise & leisure time in 2 days between ? that's only 8 days a month. less than a quarter of your time on earth free to relax & create.
my gf pointed out the other day from a video they watched as well that evidence highly suggests hunter-gatherers only worked 15-20 hours weekly. in medieval times, workers had up to half the year off.
it sounds extreme compared to the modern normalized "workaholic" lifestyle and from the idea engrained in us early on that your capitalistic productivity is instrinic to your worth as a person and member of society, but it is entirely feasible.
think about the multitudes of unemployed ppl at any given time. think about the amount of ppl it would benefit to work that amount & only pick up more responsibility if they want to. we could totally do this if profit wasn't prioritized over the overall well-being of humanity !
