I’ve driven the whole state of #Iowa the last few days and I haven’t even seen some of the worst of the #derecho2020 that devasted the state. Outside of the large cities without power, the lines to gas stations are 50+ cars long. Hotels that have power are booked.
Most places are cash only but you can’t get cash because your bank is completely offline. Cities can’t call out to 911 because of lack of service. Between Iowa City and Cented Point, it looks like a semitruck graveyard. We counted 30 flipped semis just going one way.
I just can’t believe how this isn’t getting more attention. I literally had to drive north to my mother’s house for shelter! I had no cash, no way to prepare food, and no way to even buy food. Think of all the people who don’t have this option.
I haven’t had power since Monday at 1:30. I have lost $300 of groceries that I had to just toss. Had I stayed in Bettendorf, I would have been overheated and starved. I don’t have the luxury of having a bbq grill or some other means to eat. I don’t have a generator.
I know I’m talking a lot about this but it’s scary and sad. Driving through one of the biggest cities in Iowa in complete darkness is terrifying.
If you wanna help me out to cover groceries once I get power, there’s my Venmo. I’m just at such a loss of words over this. I wasn’t prepared for this.
