Feeling trepidation for the River Lea.
Watching weather forecasts & water quality monitors.
If we get short, heavy bursts of rain in the next couple of days we could see oxygen levels in the river crash & fish die.
Large amounts of undiluted pollution would get washed in.

The set-up -
Warm water holds less O2 than cold.
Rivers have less water in them during summer months, so any pollution entering is more concentrated.
This is the same for any river of course, but not all rivers are as precariously balanced as the Lea.

The Lea catchment has 80 square miles of paved areas.
It gets hot. When rain falls it warms up & pours into rivers. If it stops raining the temperature of the Lea stays warm. The rain washes in muck from roads. Sewers can overflow too. All of this feeds 02 consuming bacteria

There are lots of industrial estates in Edmonton. Any pollutants that are not cleaned up get washed into the Lea's tributaries.
At night river plants produce less O2 so that can be a problem in the morning.
These problems affect rivers in London & beyond of course.

We want steady, slow rain, failing at the right time, say just before midnight!

We also want pollution control, regulator inspections, more green spaces to soak up rain ( https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/climate-change/surface-water/alma-road-suds-project#:~:text=Alma%20Road%20is%20a%20busy,to%20take%20lots%20of%20rainwater). Sewer overflow notifications...
