Harry after Zayn left the band.

Let’s start with March 18, Zayn’s last performance with the band. Harry must have known judging from his demeanour this whole concert.
March 18. The other boys did not seem as affected as Harry(outside looking in.)
March 18. Here’s the last song and Harry does not waste a second and leaves the stage.
March 21. This is the date Zayn flew out to take a break. None of us at this stage knew Zayn was leaving the band but judging from this video I think Harry knew but was still holding out hope because he still sung Z’s parts and left his space open until Niall called him over
March 25. The announcement is made official, Zayn left the band. All the boys were obviously really shaken up but Harry in particlar seemed to be the most affected and he refused to sing any of Zayn’s lines.

March 25: Refused to sing it and looked very upset.
Again March 21: Sung Zayn’s part in the Story of My Life.
March 25: Refused to and as you can tell Liam and Niall weren’t expecting it either
Now I’m not sure if the other boys knew Zayn was leaving, but Harry definitely did. The last few concerts before it was official, he just wasn’t the same and according Joe Cummings, he had also had a falling out with Zayn 4 days prior
Now at the time Zayn left, there were a couple lyric changes Harry made. The most obvious one, after Zayn left, Harry began singing the lyric “weigh” again in little things.

Another, Harry changed Zayn’s part in Strong from “need you to keep me from falling apart. I'll always hold on, cause you make me strong” to “𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙙 always keep me from falling apart, I’ll always hold on...”. He completely cut out “cause you make strong”, as well.
And this one is particularly upsetting but in their live performance of Torn, he reverted the lyrics back to the original and instead sung “there’s nothin' where he used to lie”. In their version the lyrics are “there’s nothing left, I used to cry”.
Harry consistently made the same bad jokes to avoid questions about Zayn. The jokes weren’t funny but it seemed to help him cope. If you paid attention, as soon as he made them, he would go back to looking dejected.

I don’t think it takes a genius to see that after Zayn left the band, Harry was completely different. He seemed to just be biding his time until hiatus(which he suggested). In a lot of interviews he just seemed disinterested:
This one was quite funny, he tried to end the interview but Liam kept speaking.
Again, just seemed very disinterested. This was very unusual of Harry.
A lot of times, he didn’t seem to even realise that Zayn wasn’t there anymore.
And we all know Harry was the one to suggest the hiatus. Not exactly sure where Liam was at about it but Louis wasn’t keen on hiatus at the time and Niall often expressed he would go back to it without hesitation.
side note: as much as I love 1D and how they formed my childhood, I’m so glad they parted. All the boys finally found their ‘sound’ and are doing much better. (seriously though stream icarus falls and FL if you haven’t

In terms of songs written by H in MITAM, it’s quite interesting how they all seem to have one theme in common: being apart and longing for someone. He wrote these songs right after Z’s departure. In particlar, WITW, IICF and Olivia. Here are some memorable lines from these songs
These lyrics seem to directly parallel some of Z’s songs(esp Olivia) and tell the same story. I won’t post them on this thread
We’ve reached the end!! Just to add, it’s clear all the boys were affected by Zayn’s departure as were we all. But it appears as though Harry was the most affected by it.
another quick note: The same way Harry made jokes about Zayn’s departure, Zayn could have just as easily said they never spoke as a coping mechanism and to avoid questions about Harry. They both avoided questions about each other like the plague(but their songs are very telling)
