I had a view on the Surface Duo but I don't know if it's going to be published because of the embargo screwup, so here goes. The Duo has been in production for too long because they needed to innovate new materials, and as a result it's an early-2020 product. BUT ... (1/4)
Remember the first Surface. (Windows RT!) And the first Windows. Microsoft doesn't have a great track record with 1.0 products, BUT it creates entire new markets if it sticks with and refines a concept. The Surface gave birth to the 2-in-1 market. So ... (2/4)
The question is whether Microsoft is really committed to handhelds in a way it hasn't been for years. If the next Surface Duo is already most of the way through development, this is exciting. But ... (3/4)
If this is a one-off or trial balloon, it's going to fail. That's what Microsoft needs to be clearer about.
