'Buy this album, take it home and prepare to sweat brain cells trying to keep up with the way these kids rhyme. MC's Prince Poetry and Pharoahe Monch flip the illest off-beat rhyme style to come out since Ultramagnetic's Kool Keith... Organized is definitely on some other shit'
Group members Prince Po and Pharoahe Monch began their career under the name Simply II Positive MCs. Originally, Po was the rapper and Pharoahe was a beatboxer, but after realizing his rhyming skill, Monch joined Po as MC.
'We were tossing names around and my man Carlos called me. He had pulled out the Organized Con Funk Shun record and he was like what y’all think about Organized Konfusion? That’s how the name came about.'- Pharoahe Monch
Here is an early recording of Organized Konfusion freestyling.
The duo would drop their debut self titled album in 1991 to critical acclaim and would get a 4 🎤🎤🎤🎤 rating from the Source Magazine. Already at this point, OK had established themselves as elite lyricist's who were well ahead of their time who were incredibly conceptual.
1994 was an incredible year for Hip Hop, arguably the best ever with heavyweight albums Ready To Die by Biggie and Nas' legendary Illmatic dropping that year. OK would also drop an Album, that has since become a legendary underground release and 1 of the best albums ever.
Stress: The Extinction Agenda widely regarded as the best album OK made has some of the best rapping, lyricism, songwriting I have ever heard. Prince Po is an incredibly talented rapper and deserves way more recognition, but even he at times, can't keep up with the god Monch
Monch on this album to me, is the best rap performance I have ever heard across an album. When it comes to flow, delivery, emotion, lyricism and technical ability, none have overall rapper better than Monch on here. Every verse he spits on here is genius in at least some way.
The album would feature guest appearances from O.C. (who would also drop his underground classic word... life that year) and none other than Q-Tip on the track Let's Organize, which is the most light hearted/fun song on the album.
Organized Konfusion would produce most of the album themselves with help from Buckwild and Rockwilder. The beats on here are some of the boomiest I have heard and guests unjustly criticised. It's not the best produced album of the 90s but these beats allow for OK to go off.
Here's Monch's legendary verse on the title track 'Stress'. Po spazzed as well but the level of flow and delivery Monch was at on here, is just crazy. Goosebumps everytime.
The album has literally no skips for me, every single verse Po and especially Monch have is just amazing. They were way ahead of their time on this album and were making waves in the underground and would influence many other lyricist's.
Here's Monch's legendary verse on Stray Bullet, a conceptual song where Po and Monch rap from the perspectives of bullets. A goat verse contender, this song would influence Nas to write I Gave You Power and in turn influence 2Pac to write Me And My Girlfriend. Ahead of their time
The album received a four mic rating from the source. And yes I am one of the people who believes that this deserved the full 5 mic rating. The rapping on here is just in another level compared to everything that was dropping around this time and is up there with Illmatic
