Thanks #EconTwitter! I& #39;m going to start suggesting randomizing w/ my coauthors. Especially because "L" frequently puts me first for no good reason. And it might be a difficult thing for coauthors, especially more-junior coauthors, to bring up. As for the costs ... 1/4 https://twitter.com/jasonmlindo/status/1293227062241656841">https://twitter.com/jasonmlin...
Switching to random author ordering is largely a transfer, and one that seems appropriate. Might it lead to some confusion about contributions? Perhaps but there& #39;s already confusion, and can be clarified where it matters (e.g. in acknowledgments, on CVs, tenure packets, etc.) 2/4
Sorry for not having reached this conclusion sooner coauthors with later alphabetized last names! But it& #39;s not too late if our work isn& #39;t published yet :) @IsaacDSwensen @analisapackham @GlenWaddell @MayraPinedaT @MaraPadillaR @dave_marcotte @Caitlin_K_Myers @SiminskiPeter 3/4
Given what we know about the effects of author order, I think it& #39;s especially important for senior folks and those who benefit from the alphabetical convention to broach the subject with their coauthors. 4/4
