I'd like to share some interview questions from my time on the market.

Many excellent advice (e.g., https://politicalscience.ucr.edu/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Grad-Market-Handbook-9-23-16.pdf), but perhaps fewer resources on interview questions.

Hopefully this list will help those on the market, even if only a bit.

I'll start with 2 suggestions.

First, during campus visit, there might be dinner/lunch with search committee.

Avoid seats that are facing the window, TV, or entrance.

Hard to concentrate when TV's playing sports or there're kids w/ Halloween costumes outside the window.

Second, if you've to present stat results on video call, make sure to highlight the coefficients you want to discuss on each slide.

I had some experience where audio got disconnected whenever mouse was moved. So that ruled out moving mouse/using pointer to point to results.

Now, on to the list of questions. I don't know the ideal answers to these questions (if there's any at all), so I'll just write them all without offering my thoughts.

1) Are you open to collaborate (writing papers together) with graduate students and why?

4/n
2) What new research will you pursue that's unrelated to your dissertation?

3) How'd you describe your ideal workplace?

4) How'd you define a good colleague?

5) 30 years from now, when at the end of your career, how would you want people to remember you professionally?

5/n
6) How can you ensure your (stat programming) code is error free?

7) What are two most important diversity issues for you?

8) How do you FIT and COMPLEMENT the profile of the department?

9) How do you make someone not interested in statistics becomes interested in it?

6/n
10) How do you maximize the impacts of your research? Both in terms of citation and policy impacts.

11) What does liberal arts education mean to you?

12) Tell us one genuine reason why you're interested in this job.

13) What's your brand? What do you want to be known as?

7/n
14) Who do we compete with? (Variant: Where else are you interviewing?)

15) If we offer you the job, will you take it?

Obviously there're also the standard academic job market Qs on research/teaching etc. But Qs above were most memorable to me.
