I receive private messages all the time from #teachers, #advocates, and #parents who follow my page or have read my books, but this is a first! It was such a pleasure to receive this message from a school board member who wants to make informed decisions 1/7
about school curricula, particularly #literacy‼️

“I enjoy following your page. I sometimes don't quite understand all of the references since I'm not an educ., but it's helped point me towards things to research. I've ordered your book "Failing Students or Failing Schools". 2/7
It's really tough to be a school board member and cast votes on reading and writing curriculum. I really wish there was a crash course on reading and writing instruction for school board members. We so often have to rely on District Admin and Staff for information 3/7
and sometimes they are influenced by their training and background to favor balanced literacy. It's difficult to ask intelligent, probing questions when you're a layman. I've spent so many hours researching reading that I've lost track 4/7
and my knowledge and understanding are still limited because I don't have the background and training to fully grasp everything that I read on the topic. My hope is that one day some time is given to developing something for school board members to read and digest 5/7
so that they can ask informed questions and cast well thought votes when reading and writing topics are on the board agenda. Your page has helped me though to at least know I need to ask more questions and continue to research as best I can 6/7
which I think has made me a better school board member.”

To this particular individual and to anyone else interested in literacy, I am confident that my books will provide you with a strong foundation.
