So yeah apparently Shinji is not ´ strong enough to solely rely on hismelf because he trusts his comrades. Shinji IS better than the others as implied by Aizen and he searchs for superiors because he trusts in people like Ichigo.
Aizen hates the idea of trusting in superior people but accept it because it’s real. He then ASKS shinji to trust in him instead of Ichigo because he is a better superior...!! He is making an exception. And even more, he lets Shinji decide whether he wants to join or not.
Aizen implies Shinji is stronger but as his theory says, stronger people searches for stronger comrades to believe in, in this case, Ichigo. It seems to irritate Aizen. That’s why even though Aizen hates the fact of trusting, he still tells Shinji to TRUST in him.
Because shinji is (to Aizen) the kind of fellow who needs to trust someone stronger than him to take a side, he tells him to believe in him. Even if he hates that cobcept this is the obly way to get shinji to his side. That IS the goal of their battle.
If this comical ending scene is not explicit then idk.He clearly wanted Shinji as a comrade and he is scouting him lol. And for Aizen to scout someone is kinda huge. I think what hate Aizen is that Shinji rejects him and always did while their duo could have been awesome to him.

AIZEN NEVER TOLD HIS FOLLOWERS RO BELIEVE HIM BUT IS TELLING SHINJI TO BELIEVE HIM LET ME BREAAAATH
+ Aizen never had that look until now. +The way Shinji talks to Aizen casually is comforting for Aizen because people always look up to him and adress him in a very formal way WHILE SHINJI NEVER DID BECAUSE HE IS NOT IMPRESSED BY HIM. He is the first person he can almost jokeWITH
That is why Aizen has a lot of regrets abt Shinji.He wants to scout him because while shinji can joke and spied on him inTBTP it shows how much Shinji could have the guts to stand by Aizen side. He’d be a good comrade:he is not impressed, can stay calm.A lost of potential to him.
This is what I mean when saying Aizen regrets Shinji did not understand him.Aizen implies HE COULD HAVE.But didn’t do it on purpose.He knows Shinji and him have similar traits because they are smart, sharp,manipulative but they oppose.While Shinji wants the good Aizen wants evil.
Aizen is in fact a lonely man.And regrets Shinji CHOSE not to understand him.I also have the feeling he hates or is jealous of Hiyori for being close to Shinji.He tried to get rid of her twice.And in TBTP he ordered Kaname to do it when regaining consciousness: look at his look.
/end thread/ Either he’s jealous or Hiyori’s the key to unlock Shinji’s potential. Shinji doesn’t show it as it can be a weakness but he cares for his friends and that’s why Hiyori’s often the key to show Shinji’s true potential.
