Access to European competition for the 2020-21 season is now set, so a quick run through the winners and losers from the top tier of leagues.

Germany moves back above Italy into third in coefficient table. Italy could still flip back, but it wouldn't affect the access list.
Portugal up into 6th above Russia, who suffered the worst European performance since 2002-03.

It means Portugal will have 3 UCL places for 2021-22, with Russia dropping to 2.
Netherlands moves into the top 10, guaranteeing the Dutch champions a place in the UCL group stage.

Turkey drops out, into 11th, though its champions won't have to go through qualifying if the UCL winners qualify for the group stage domestically (they usually do).
Being in the top 15 was big this year. Not only does it give 2 UCL places, it also guarantees one slot in the Europa League for the cup winners.

A league outside top 15 is now "locked out" of the Europa League (bar UCL drop down) and allocated to new Europa Conference League.
Denmark and Scotland are the beneficiaries here, both getting back two UCL places.

The last UCL season Denmark had 2 places was in 2014-15, and Scotland in 2012-13 (when Motherwell qualified after the demise of Rangers).
It's a remarkable rise from Scotland after two strong seasons. This time two years ago, Scotland was ranked 26th, now it is 14th, and will start the new season in 13th.

In the last two seasons, Scotland has ranked 10th and 6th on overall performance of all 55 European nations.
Rangers earned as many UEFA coefficient points this season as Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund (18.00), and more than Real Madrid (17.00).

Celtic (16.50) were not far behind them.
Scotland will need to have another good campaign next season to protect its position.

With 4 teams in Europe each win will be worth 0.50 coefficient points. But it will get more difficult to maintain position from 2021-22.
With 5 teams in Europe in 2021-22, each win will be worth 0.40 coefficient points, which is a 20% drop compared to this season.

Added to that, if both Scottish UCL teams were to make the UCL group stage, the ability to score coefficient points would be difficult.
Even if one Scottish team drops from the UCL to the UEL, the UEL is shaping up to be a much stronger competition from next season with teams from nations outside the top 15 not able to qualify directly.

So scoring coefficient points may be more difficult there too.
It means that performance in the new UEFA Europa Conference League for Scotland's 4th and 5th European entrants is going to be important.

Scotland cannot keep relying on Rangers and Celtic to score all the coefficient points if those two teams are playing at a higher level.
With Scotland and Denmark taking 2 UCL places, who misses out?

Greece and Croatia both go down to one UCL place, and will have no direct access to the Europa League.
Worth noting that the team that wins the Carabao Cup next season, or takes the lowest-ranked European place in the Premier League, will enter Europe in the final qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The Carabao Cup no longer carries a Europa League place.
