SAMUEL OKWARAJI:
31 YEARS AFTER.
Today, the 12th of August, 2020 marks the 31st anniversary of the death of former Super Eagles midfielder, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji.
Okwaraji slumped and died of heart failure on the pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos.

Today, the 12th of August, 2020 marks the 31st anniversary of the death of former Super Eagles midfielder, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji.
Okwaraji slumped and died of heart failure on the pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos.
It was during the World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Angola on the 12th of August, 1989.
Even though Nigeria went ahead to win the match by a lone goal, the victory was marred by Okwaraji's death.

Various promises made since then by several bodies and governments to take care of Okwaraji's family and immortalize him have gone unfulfilled.
However, few months ago, current Sports Minister, Sunday Dare commenced the payment of monthly stipend to Okwaraji's mother, but the woman died of illness few weeks after the first payment. #BlackLivesMatter
