Ok, taking breath time to give recap of #Boxgrove and call out some credits to just a few people who made this research happen. some of the more recent #BoxgrovePeople long thread maybe...
The site was discovered by Andrew Woodcock in 1974, in 1982 Mark Roberts took over for @UCLarchaeology & directed excavations from 1982 - 1996. With meticulous help from excavation supervisors including Simon Parfitt, Louise Austin, Martin Bates, Indira Mann, Jamie Mackenzie.....
And of course many volunteers and students who both excavated and refitted flints.... Dawn Walter, Clair Lawson=O'Brien, Keith Watson, me!....
The excavation was funded by @HistoricEngland (then @EnglishHeritage), and supprted by the quarry owners, the Amey Roadstone Corp. This was Rescue Archaeology, prior to developer pays being enshrined in planning law. @HistoricEngland funded the analysis, write-up & publication
The bones were looked at in detail by Simon Parfitt and Dr Silvia Bello at the @NHM_London with support from the Calleva Foundation and from @ChrisStringer65, who is a key and very supportive part of the Boxgrove research team (shame no human bones from this site Chris)....
The project had a huge boost from the AHRC-funded @FragHeritage led by @AdrianEvans in partnership with the @britishmuseum......
With Rob Davis, @TabithaPaterson and @josiemills the project funded intricate refitting., 3D scanning and digital printing, it changed our level of understanding....
Finally comes the huge challenge of coordinating and managing a large team to bring this to publication, the important bit. This just wouldn't have happened without the patience, professionalism and care of @ArchSouthEast 's Assistant Director @TW11archaeomum Thank you Louise!
And then the final layout and design itself, down to @ArchSouthEast 's @F1Griffin. Its such a clear and perfectly produced volume giving space to the text and images including Lauren Gibson's reconstruction art.
So many people over the past 32 years. Last mentions have @UCLarchaeology Director Sue Hamilton, & Faculty Dean @SashaRoseneil for creating the research environment to make this happen. And Prof Clive Gamble & @AnnemiekeMilks who both shaped how I grew to see the #BoxgrovePeople
