People can and will use whatever they prefer, but I do know this:
My abuelita doesn't know what Latinx is. Neither does the paletero.
When coming up w/ new terms, often trying to include everyone actually excludes the people they aim to serve, or do they? Did anyone even ask? https://twitter.com/germanrlopez/status/1293246049788846081

Those may not be popular opinions and it's not about one word being right or wrong, but I do wish people would worry less about semantics and letters and more about actually being a unified community that celebrates the diversity within it.
Emphasis on UNIFIED.
Emphasis on UNIFIED.
Is unifying a vastly diverse community even possible? Let's see.
How many people lost it when the Walter Mercado Netflix doc came out?
When the Selena MAC line came out?
When the Celia Cruz doodle appeared on the Google homepage?
When Lin-Manuel did basically anything?

Not every single one of us will eat the same food or dance the same way, if at all, or speak a language with the same accent, if at all either.
But how many of us use Vicks Vaporub (however you call it), clap when we land, light candles when things get real, clean to music etc?

The whole point is we connect, even if we don't get 10/10 because we don't all live the same way, but what if we aim for more than just a word to unite us.
Maybe the word could be GANAS. Amor. Corazón. Ambición (let's get the negative stigma outta that one anyway bc we need it)

It's really disheartening to see people push X's into everything w/ more effort than trying to connect with our elders & learn their stories to retain the history of our culture, which was mostly wiped off the face of the earth anyway. People who don't even know about the X's...
Hard to see X's forced into things w/ more force than actually including the people they're meant to include.
What if instead we use inclusive language but ALSO be inclusive with our actions. That might actually change how people are treated & included so people know about it.

I blended a few diff themes here, from what Latinidad means to how we use/even know what the X's are about, but it all goes hand in hand.
Let's include people, all people, and make sure they know they are enough, whether or not you speak Spanish, identify in a binary, etc.

It would also be cool to ask the people who aren't down for the Xs what they'd even want to be called. Has anyone asked them? Is anyone having these conversations?
I love asking. I love hearing their replies. I hear orgullo #Latino para nuestra gente #Latina.
Both. Más. Zaz!

Note: We won't dismantle the patriarchy by dismantling a language.
I'm not saying don't use X's. Sometimes they do make sense, aside from the gender aspect, but because it's easier than an @ too.
I'm saying let's pick our battles & focus on what the intention is.

Let's put more ganas into the work it takes to unify a community and create the change we want to see to dismantle systems of oppression than just arguing over X's. Let's include all people of course, but direct the collective energy into something everyone can understand:
Our ancestors' lands were taken from them & our grandchildren will say the same thing if we don't take care of our planet.
Our community deserves to be healthy and we can do something about it.
Our community has worked too hard to be underpaid & undervalued. Let's change that.

To the point of non-Latinos using Latinx more than we do:
Can you put as much effort into hiring, supporting and investing in us as you do into figuring out what to call us?
Thanks, that'd be great.
and I know you can say our names :)

You know what I actually wish they'd call us?
REGISTERED VOTERS.
What does that mean? We actually registered, and then we actually showed up to vote. That would be AWESOME.
