Day 7: The wonderful 436-seat ‘Snowcrete’ covered Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy, Perth & Kinross opened on 3rd July 1939. During WWII it became crucial in keeping the townsfolk informed by showing newsreels

During the 1980s however, bingo nights and pool couldn’t keep the business afloat and the future of this cultural gem looked uncertain. Plans to convert it to a supermarket luckily came to nothing and it closed in 2004

Determined to save it, a cinema-deprived group of residents formed the Friends of The Birks Cinema charity in 2005. Much fundraising and support later from celebrities, local authority and more locals for a renovation it re-opened its doors on 20th April 2013 @BirksCinema
