Day 7: The wonderful 436-seat ‘Snowcrete’ covered Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy, Perth & Kinross opened on 3rd July 1939. During WWII it became crucial in keeping the townsfolk informed by showing newsreels 👇
During the 1980s however, bingo nights and pool couldn’t keep the business afloat and the future of this cultural gem looked uncertain. Plans to convert it to a supermarket luckily came to nothing and it closed in 2004 👇
Determined to save it, a cinema-deprived group of residents formed the Friends of The Birks Cinema charity in 2005. Much fundraising and support later from celebrities, local authority and more locals for a renovation it re-opened its doors on 20th April 2013 @BirksCinema
