#12thAugust #BabraMassacre
72 years ago hundreds of KhudaiKhidmatgars were killed in Babra, Charsadda on the order of then Provincial Cheif Minister Abdul QayyumKhan who was appointed as CM after toppling the elected government of Khudaikhidmatgars undemocratically.
#PashtunGenocide
In 1946, KhudaiKhidmatgars(KK) won the elections with an absolute majority but Muslim League (faithful to British Colonisers) didn't want them to rule NWFP so in the life of Jinnah, horse-trading & unconstituional decisions began & elected govt of KK was toppled
& the forefront KhudaiKhidmatgar leaders including Bacha Khan and Dr. Khan were arrested. A new ordinance was promulgated by the provincial governor(on the orders of Jinnah), which authorized the govt to detain anyone indefinitely &confiscate their properties, without disclosing
...the reason. The Khudai Khidmatgars decided to mark a peaceful protest against the illegal detention of Bacha Khan. Section 144 was imposed. The government deployed paramilitary and police force in Babra who set their guns & heavy weapons on different buildings of village Babra
On 12th August when the unarmed peaceful protestors arrived at Babra ground, police started an indiscriminate fire on the protestors killing and wounding hundreds. The police kept on shooting the unarmed protestors until they ran out of ammunition. It was a ruthless massacre.
To add injury to the insult of #BabraMassacre, the families of those who were killed& injured were fined thus they were forced to pay the cost of bullets that killed their loved ones. It's not surprising that in today's Pakistan the internment camps run with our own tax money.
"They were lucky that the police had finished ammunition; otherwise not a single soul would have been left alive". This is what the Chief Minister Abdul Qayyum Khan said about the Babra Massacre in the Provincial Assembly. Between 1948 and 2020, not much has changed for Pashtuns.
#BabraMassacre set a precedent of state-enforced terrorism against Pashtuns who were asking for their constitutional and democratic rights. 72 years have passed but till day justice has not been served (let alone initiated).
