IN DEFENSE OF WAVERLY EARP: I've seen a lot of ppl shitting on Waves for not doing enough for Nicole this episode. But I don't think y'all are giving her enough credit. Her line in this scene shows that she understands not only what Chrissy must (1/7) #WynonnaEarp
have been going through, but also indirectly Nicole. (If she can understand what was going through Chrissy's mind, she can understand what the LOVE OF HER LIFE must be feeling). We see a lot of sweet caring things throughout the episode too- noticing Nic's "worry wrinkle," (2/7)
standing on a step in Shorty's to talk to her eye-to-eye, telling her that she doesn't need to be sorry, etc. They are very in-sync as a couple, and although we haven't seen them discuss Nicole's PTSD explicitly, that doesn't mean she doesn't care about her mental state. (3/7)
I think Waverly is actually trying to not bring it up head-on. She wants to encourage Nicole to open up at her own pace. Notice the phrasing of this line-- it's "can you?" not "tell me." I think this is really intentional. It's giving Nicole an option/some control back. (4/7)
ALSO can we just acknowledge that Waverly is not going to know exactly what to say either? For starters, she was just stuck in the literal Garden of Eden after watching her dad die right in front of her. She's been through A LOT too. Not to mention that she is still in her (5/7)
early 20s and this is probably the most serious relationship she's ever had. Waverly is not a mental health professional. She's not going to know exactly what to do or say to make things better. But to say she's not trying or that she's not good enough for Nicole??? Nope. (6/7)
I really do think Waverly is doing the best that she can all things considered. She's made it clear that she loves Nicole and that she will support her through anything, which is sometimes all you can do when a loved one is going through a hard time. (7/7)
