Three things on Biden/Harris. 1. No presidential campaign is won or lost on a VP pick. Harris helps mobilise the base, especially those who sat out 2016. Nobody thinks Harris is going to persuade Trump voters to flip or attract the radical left.
2. No radical was going to secure the nomination. But radicals can influence the nominee. This is political activism 101. Biden has already been pushed to the left on several issues. He can be pushed further still. That’s the point. He doesn’t scare the horses + he’s persuadable.
3. Biden/Harris will never be acceptable to the radical left. Similarly, the radical left are not the constituency for this campaign. Bernie and AOC will be a shaky bridge to some radical folks. But please, I beg of you, remember these basic dynamics over the next 90 days.
Remember this when you think about Black voting behaviour: ‘No community of American voters appreciates the stakes-is-high nature of the two-party system quite like Black Americans, who have always had to navigate political participation with precarity’. https://africasacountry.com/2020/04/the-mythical-black-voter
