When I was around 13 I went on a camping trip with my father that involved covering a certain length of trail. At one of the stops for the evening there was a party and I learned exactly which of my father’s friends were good men and which were not.

My father thought it would
be amusing, or funny somehow, to let me get a little intoxicated. His friends kept sneaking me drinks and my 13 year old self wasn’t smart enough to know better.

Fast forward a couple hours to my dad going to bed and a couple of his friends trying to sit me on their laps and
get me into their tents with them. To the men there that saw this and intervened at my discomfort, who made sure I had a plausible reason to get back to my camp and was escorted there safely: thank you.

To the men that think their buddies are all good guys: my father still
doesn’t know about this and likely never will. Because it wouldn’t matter. The fault wouldn’t be theirs, as much as the stupid little girl’s. As far as I know the frequency of trips has slowed as they grew older but he still considers these men upstanding
friends.

I’m tired of carrying anger over 100’s of stories like this, it’s time for men to hold their own accountable
