THE NBA IS MADNESS

WHO MAKES THE PLAY IN GAME

A THREAD
Starting with the newly dubbed 8 seed Portland Trailblazers

Last game: Nets

A win secures the 8 seed

With a loss however, assuming one of the other play in potential’s win, puts them into tiebreaker mode...
According to ESPN this is how tiebreakers seems determined.

So

Grizzlies: 1-1
Suns: 2-2
Spurs: 2-1

If Blazers, Suns, Grizzlies lose but Spurs win

Blazers win tiebreaker based on H2H win %: 8 Blazers, 9 Spurs
Using the same rules, say Suns or Grizzlies win and the Blazers and the other two teams lose

Since they have the same record
Neither won their division
Neither is in the same division (b/c spurs lose in this scenario)

We go win % vs the West:

Continued...
If PHX wins and the others lose:

POR: 19-28: 40.4%
PHX: 19-27: 41.3%

8 Suns, 9 Blazers

If MEM wins and the others lose:
POR: 19-28: 40.4%
MEM: 21-27: 43.7%

8 Grizzlies, 9 Blazers
Therefore Grizzlies jump to 8, and we move to ANOTHER tie breaker for Blazers/Suns which is win % against playoff teams, which in this case includes Memphis

POR: 10-16 or 38.5%
PHX: 8-19 or 29.6%

Grizzlies 8, Blazers 9
So say the Spurs win in the same scenario, opposed to Suns/Grizzlies, creates 3 way tie in each scenario:

Based of H2H win % between the 3:

Continued....
Suns/Spurs win, Grizzlies/Blazers lose:
Spurs: 3-3, Suns: 3-4, Blazers 4-3
8 Blazers, 9 Spurs, Suns gone

Griz/Spurs win, Suns/Blazers lose:
Griz: 3-3 Spurs: 3-4 Blazers: 3-2
8 Blazers, 9 Griz, Spurs gone

Continued....
Griz/Suns win, Spurs/Blazers lose:
Griz: 4-2, Suns: 3-5, Blazers: 3-3
8 Grizzlies, 9 Blazers, Suns gone
So basically outcome by scenario, 8 possible (blazers winning is 1, that happens they’re set at 8)

Blazers: 8 in 4, 9 in 4
Grizzlies: 8 in 3, 9 in 1
Suns: 8 in 1, 9 in 0
Spurs: 8 in 0, 9 in 2
This took a lot of work, so RT’s are definitely appreciated
