This guy asked me to bring evidence on why 'marital rape' is forbidden

This thread is proof against any type of domestic violence, verbal abuse and mistreatment of wives

Obv something as evil shouldn't require 'evidence' your brain should tell you

Allah says:

وعاشروهن بالمعروف
And live with them (female) in kindness

[Surah Nisa: Verse 19]

The Tafseer of this ayah is the following:

Imam At Tabari says:

Abu Ja'far said: Allah ﷻ has meant by (the verse) show character, oh men, to your women and companionship in a good/kind manner. meaning, that which i have commanded you with is from companionship, and that is: staying firm in fulfilling her rights which

Allah has made OBLIGATORY upon you for her. or that you let her go (when divorcing) which kindness.

Ibn Kathir says:

It means: make your speech good for her, beautify your actions for her and appearance/attitude according to how much you can. Just as you love that from her. Be to her as she is to you

Imam Qurtubi says:

Meaning that which Allah has COMMANDED from good characteristics. The message is for all. For everyone who has a (female) relation. Whether is a husband or a Wali However, this is more in relation to the husband.

Imam Qurtubi also says:

Allah has commanded good companionship with women if they (husbands) have tied the knot with her (marriage), so that what is between them and their companionship becomes united completely. This is more tranquil for the soul, and more delightful for living

this is COMPULSORY upon the husband and not necessary when ending (the marriage)

Ibn Abi Hatim says:

As Suddi said: 'ashiruhun' means to mingle/associate/unite with them (in a kind manner)

Maqatil Bin Hayyan said: associate with them in a good manner

As Sam'ani says:

Be nice to her in her place of stay, and [in] speech and spending

As Samarqandi says:

it means: beautiful companionship

Ash Shawkaani says:

(be good) by that which is good in Shari'ah and between your wife by good intimacy

As Sa'di says:

This includes intimacy through speech & actions, it is UPON the husband that he is kind when associating/being intimate with his wife. from the best of companionship. and to refrain from harm and abandoning goodness and good actions. expense & clothing is included

The Prophet ﷺ has also said 'The best of you is he who is best to his wife, and i am the best to my wife'

[Tirmidhi, Nas'ai, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah]

Theres countless Ahadeeth on the prohibition on oppression as well.

Allah himself says he has condemned any form of oppression in a lengthy narration

The Prophet ﷺ said: Allah ﷻ said:

Oh my servant, i have made oppression forbidden upon myself, and have made it forbidden between you. - [Sahih Muslim]

Theres so many other narrations on oppression.

Theres also alot more Tafseer of the ayah and explanation of The Hadith where The Prophet said: The best of you is best to their wives.

May Allah make us all the best of people by being the best we can to our wives.
