I’m not defending her one bit but it is giving her way too much credit to say Harris “began the contemporary persecution of sex workers.”

She just borrowed a script from Senator Richard Blumenthal (as CT AG) and Cook Co Sherrif Tom Dart, targeting Craigslist. https://twitter.com/mauveshellykay/status/1293282202667692032
Another thing no one particularly wants to hear right now, and again, I’m not defending her: Harris was comparatively quiet about SESTA, compared to Blumenthal, McCaskill, and Klobuchar. Maybe because she’s tight with tech platforms? She wasn’t out front. I’d love to know more.
If Peter Thiel wasn’t Peter Thiel I could just link my Valleywag archives on this.
Harris WAS out front on Prop K, a 2008 San Francisco ballot initiative to decriminalize sex work. She opposed it. Loudly. Did press conferences about it. Never has addressed this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/03/02/kamala-harris-brought-sex-work-into-spotlight-heres-what-she-should-do-next/
Don’t let “Kamala did SESTA” become a thing. It’s not true. It’s not necessary. Her actual record is clear enough.
Anyway sorry to be a viral tweet killjoy. I will now return to quietly drinking in peace on my week off and some RHOP (season 4, it’s a lot).
