I drafted a fake page of Aristotle "On the Efficiency of Holes" where he just counts how many things your nostrils do and how many things your belly button does (did). But I accidentally got into it and earning 6 or 7 likes just didn't seem worth it. I was doing philosophy.
Inasmuch as there persists an imbalance of efficiency there must, in accordance with the number of functions, exist a hierarchy. The determination of the best hole is not settled by this hierarchy. Does a hole earn a higher honor by an increase in functions? or by simplicity?
Let us take the nostrils as one hole. The functions of the nostrils have been previously enumerated as two: breathing and smelling. One further consideration may be given to subdividing inhaling and exhaling. As one hole possesses the capacity for exhalation only, it is proper
to count inhalation and exhalation as two discrete functions.
I reiterate, the butt can exhale but it does not appear to possess the faculty for inhaling. The division of breathing faculties indicates we must count inhalation as one function and exhalation as a second function. Therefore the nostril possesses three capacities.
