Do you remember when Rick Ross tried to sign Tyler, the Creator to Maybach Music Group??

Tyler didn't even take his call.

A quick story.
In 2011, Rick Ross called up Nick Diamond, founder of Diamond Supply Co and longtime friend of Tyler.

Ross: "Yo, what's up with Odd Future? I wanna talk to that Tyler kid. I want to sign him."
Ross was building out MMG.

He had already signed both Meek Mill and Wale. Ross wanted in on all the hype that the blog era rappers were getting.

He tried to sign Wiz Khalifa but didn't have enough money.

Tyler was his next attempt.
When Ross called Nick Diamond, Nick was actually with Tyler. Nick tried to connect, but Tyler couldn't care less:

Nick: "Ross wants to talk to you"

Tyler: "I don't want to talk to Rick Ross"

Nick: "Dude, just fucking talk to him"

Tyler: "Nah, I can't right now"
Here's the quote from Nick Diamond in a Complex interview:

Ross wanting Tyler the Creator isn't surprising.

I've previously written about how MMG didn't live up to its potential.

Ross was more focused on signing the hottest artists possible to MMG, but cared less about the chemistry between artists.
Meek Mill and Wale were polar opposites. Their feud seemed inevitable.

And to make matters worse, Rick Ross stayed out of it.

Can you really imagine Tyler the Creator on that squad??
Imagine Tyler The Creator on the cover of MMG Self Made Vol 1?!

You can't. It's the exact opposite of Odd Future, Wolf Gang, etc.
Tyler made the right call.

Rick Ross was better off too. He learned from mistakes, (read his Hurricanes memoir if you haven't already), and continues to level his game up.
