i just wanted to spread awareness on this: misophonia is a condition that is often discredited and forgotten about by those in medical professions. it is a real and often incredibly painful disorder, one with no real treatment or medication.
trigger sounds can be anything at all, and it’s common for people with misophonia to react to these sounds with anger, violence, tears, or an urge to flee. they can’t control this - it’s completely different from the simple “dislike” of sounds.
people with misophonia are often told to just “get over it” or that they’re overreacting. it’s not that simple - it’s a reaction in the brain. it can ruin peoples lives and their social interactions, and interfere with almost every aspect of their daily life.
the best way to deal with someone with this disorder is to be tolerant. they most likely feel like a burden themselves.
