I am becoming SO ANGRY, it’s unreal.
-2 women have come forward in the past few weeks to speak out about domestic violence at the hands of men in tech. The men deny the abuse, and everyone is just like “oh ok.”

-since November, there has been an unhinged and obsessive guy trying to break into Infosec who has been making violent threats, he’s made LITERALLY over a hundred socks to harass 2 or 3 women, and because it’s not d*rks*m or a big dramatic thing, everyone is just like “oh ok”

-just yesterday, an Infosec bro with apparently a long history of misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and racism, MADE AN HOUR LONG VIDEO where HALF of it is calling a woman in Infosec Fat. They get verbally technically PWNED, learn nothing, everyone laughs and is just like “oh ok”

Sure, S*m is cancelled, from twitter anyway. The other guys I mentioned lost a few friends, might have an bit of trouble finding a job. MAYBE we will see some justice with charges being pressed on the DV cases.
But guess what?

Kenny is still making socks.
Cybe_whatthefuckever still has a horrible YouTube video up that is probably really hurtful to hear for those mentioned.
Y’all are still buying the tech built by guys who beat women.
They have check marks, right? Can’t afford to piss them off.

And THOSE are the ones the community has decided to give ANY CONSEQUENCES. There are SO MANY MORE that have been called out and are still viewed as “pillars of the community.”

But “no one understands why there aren’t more women in tech! They must just not like science/math.”

Fuck that whole mindset.
Are we gonna wait until one of these fuckleheads actually murders us before we ACTUALLY make change?
So let’s hear it. I’ve heard enough patronizing tweets. I want action.

Those who have ANY semblance of power- whether that’s hiring, spending, teaching, management, conference organizers, LEO adjacent, hacker leadership-

And those who have a damn voice to be used, to shut creeps down, call them out, and refuse to share spaces with those who harm-

I, and every other marginalized person SICK of feeling like prey within the industry- want to know-
What are you going to DO about it?
Because silence or meaningless words have done nothing thus far, and speak volumes.
What are you going to publicly PLEDGE to do to protect us?

And btw, these are JUST the most recent and public scandals. Let’s not forget the account doing “sci-fi research” or whatever, using their platform to target and degrade women. Let’s not discuss the videographer who has an unhealthy obsession with specific femmes.
DO SOMETHING.

PLEASE stop asking us to “make a list.” You know what happens when anyone targeted puts any sort of specific list of abusers in writing?
We get sued. We get attacked. We get stalked. We get murdered.

Because abusers DO NOT like being outed.
Do your own fucking research

Or better yet:
Make yourself someone that we feel safe to tell. Make it known, loudly and often, that you are an ally against abuse, harassment, and that you support victims.
Be an ally.
