If you have the room, let me tell you about the DIY recording booth that's helping me not sit in a closet. In case it helps.

I bought three freestanding clothing racks of this type. They come in a wide variety of price points; get the cheapest you can find. Mine were $30 each.
Then I got a pack of cheap moving blankets. Just the blue quilted ones they'd wrap your coffee table in. A pack of four cost another $30.

I sit at my desk with the racks making a box behind me and to both sides. Blankets draped over them. I spread the last blanket over my desk.
This lets me record in my office without a blanket over my head, but it delivers solid sound. (I've only been using it a few weeks, so don't go by my earlier experiments.) I also do rest a couple pillows against the wall on the desk, behind the mic.
There are a million DIY solutions, some more complicated and some less, some cheaper and some more expensive. But this has been the most workable and comfortable for me. /fin
P.S. Here's me in the booth, as Slacked to @jessica_reedy the other day. (Laptop webcam, so a low angle.)
