Not many can portray adolescence and romance as intimately and tender as Kare Kano can

Backed by the visual presentation of Hideaki Anno and characters that deal with inadequacy in different ways - this is one the best RomComs I& #39;ve seen: 10/10

Introspection is essential to telling a story where characteristically they struggle being honest

So to see the show EXCEED that standard with some of the best sequences of psycho-analysis - that is effective in conveying the feelings of the characters (Arima, Tsubasa etc.)

How should one deal with their inadequacy?

That& #39;s it& #39;s own topic in itself but I just want to say that having a cast project and react to inadequacy and self-loathing differently was very good at keeping me invested in their characters

A shame some arcs were never finished

Takumi who decided to take his weakness and work on himself - in order to gain "revenge" on Tsubaki

Maho who turned her insecurity complex into toxicity towards Yukino

The takeaway is the common theme here - so as a cast they all exist thematically - sharing insecurity

The centerpiece is Arima - a character you can& #39;t & #39;simplify& #39; because of how real his psyche is

Conflicting projections of his childhood abuse and his genuine love towards Yukino make for some really chilling moments - and at no point at all did it feel like a plot device

And it& #39;s because its who he is - the reason I can say that is how consistent his reaction to things are

When he& #39;s upset that Yukino is talking to a boy - it makes sense

When he& #39;s in self-loathing BECAUSE he& #39;s upset - it makes sense

Arima could get his own thread

And I think Yukino dynamically works well with that

Such a strong protagonist as she learns to not only be honest - but also push herself out her comfort zone to interact with others and learn from her experience in a happy home

She walked so Kaguya could run

One of my favorite aspects is how she deals with that fact that not everyone lives the same domestic life - and so for her to gain more understanding in that is not only relatable but admirable

And to see Arima struggle to accept her growth was unfortunate - but honest

So all that are just lingering thoughts I built up through my watch through

I recognize the issues in production - but the unfinished product I& #39;m content with as is

Those first 16 or so EP are absolute PEAK

Will probably just look up manga spoilers to get closure

So to give a grander statement - Kare Kano made me reminisce on many memories and at points really made me sad to be growing up

There& #39;s a deep universal message from this show about insecurity that I think can resonate with many - I know it did for me

A brutally honest story

I put Kare Kano in snug Top 15 spot - but I& #39;m also super indecisive so that& #39;s not final

And for any Kare Kano fans who think this thread is underwhelming I know there& #39;s a lot to unravel but this thread I wanted to keep concise and general
