Random crypto trading stuff I wish I'd known earlier:

Know whether the market is bull, bear or sideways. There's some differentiation among coins now, but overall price action is still wildly different depending on market phases. You won't always be able to tell the phase, but aiming to keep awareness helps.

Know what you're trading. Want to profit from flipping scams? Do detailed analysis on the scamming style of the month. Here for the future of money? Do detailed analysis on the most innovative projects. There's no profit in ignorance.

Know who you follow. There are accounts leaking free alpha and doing all the discovery work for you, but there are many more wearing that mask. VCs have shitposting accounts too - who would have thought. The tiny, mostly silent ones are those you should be paying attention to.

Know who follows you. Will the feedback you get really be worth leaking that new idea of yours? Don't give more than you get back. Trading is a zero sum game after all, and ego doesn't pay your bills.

Learn to deal with time. Are you being patient while waiting for your idea to play out, or are you complacently hodling bad bags into the grave? It's a fine line.

Your power to foresee what will happen is unique to you. Some are able to see the next tick, some see the next month's memes, some see paradigm shifts. Adapt your style and don't get detracted by the style and - signalled - success of others.

Don't get stuck. Unless you are able to strike gold within a month upon arrival (hint: nobody can), crypto is a wonderful machine to get you stuck in entrenched communities and outdated beliefs. Crypto can make you rich, and then poor again.

Trading is uniquely suited to sociopaths. Always doubt appearances.

Conversely: find a true reason to stay. For me, it's the paradigm shift. For you, it might be something else, but it's unlikely that "I want to be rich" is going to motivate you enough to be successful in this incredibly brutal market.

Learn to control your emotions. The coin you always wanted drops to the levels you always dreamt of, yet you stay out because it's a red day, or a red week.
