I’m a glutton for punishment; I’m watching the Omaha City Council meeting. It’s public comment time for an emergency mask ordinance. On the one hand, health professionals begging for a few weeks of masks to bring the transmission rate down; on the other, MAGA and Qanon devotees.

All of the opponents of the mask ordinance say there’s actually no virus, Jesus will protect us, if you’re old or have health issues you should just stay away from healthy people, and government can’t tell people what to do. One lady forced her terrified 6 year old to testify.

We’ve had a chiropractor literally screaming at the city council. Now a woman says masks are much more dangerous. Multiple people have made up quotes from Thomas Jefferson. And multiple people have announced they won’t comply. A couple of people sound like they’ve been drinking.

One thing that is very clear from this meeting is that our educational system has completely failed. All of these people are ranting and raving, jumping from one conspiracy theory to the next, yelling about the government and tyranny...all while explaining how they aren’t afraid.
