#FLwx We did some digging on this one...

Get ready for some #lightning analysis. #LightningSafety https://twitter.com/PaulFox13/status/1293016738485985281
#FLwx The palm tree was struck by 3 negative cloud-to-ground #lightning strokes at 3:59:23pm, packing 38000 Amps of current! The multiple strokes are why the lightning appears to flicker in the video. #LightningSafety
#FLwx In the 5 minutes leading up to the tree being struck, all of the nearest #lightning was more than 5 miles away, with the closest being an in-cloud (black icons) event. The nearest cloud-to-ground event (red icons) was 8.77 miles away. #LightningSafety
#FLwx All of the cloud-to-ground strokes that occurred within the minute prior to the tree being struck happened more than 10 miles away. #LightningSafety
#FLwx Radar paints the same picture. All of the storm cores were miles away from the storm. #LightningSafety
#FLwx Looking at the video, the sky was also partly cloudy - the only clouds were likely from the storms building to the west. #LightningSafety
#FLwx In the minutes leading up to the tree being struck, the closest #lightning was more than 6 miles away. Probably close enough to be heard, but probably not too loud to attract attention. All of the other lightning was probably too far away to be heard. #LightningSafety
#FLwx Bolts from the blue are especially dangerous from a #LightningSafety perspective because you don't typically have the signs that would prompt you to seek safety: It's usually not raining and you don't usually hear thunder.
#FLwx So when you see clouds building in the summer, always know where your #lightning safe place is - that is a substantial building with plumbing and electrical in the walls or a metal-topped vehicle. #LightningSafety
