Money twitter is hands down the best corner of Twitter.

So much positivity and knowledge packed in this community.

And I want to see everyone get that bread!

But you can't stack cake if you're fighting the FTC as the same time so

Let's talk FTC compliance!

{{{ A Thread }}}
So who or what is the FTC and why should you care?

The Federal Trade Commission is a group of anti-fun, Washington D.C. bureaucrats that are "watchdogs for consumers".
Ok, tbf, they've done some good stuff like smashing $T for selling unlimited high speed internet and then throttling...

But no joke, the FTC has good lawyers and they don't fuck around.

When you're in their cross hairs, take it seriously.
So the FTC cares what you do online, so you should know who they are.

The FTC, as government bureaucracies seem to do, have created a bunch of rules that we're all required to abide by, so let's discuss....
The economics of Twitter are fairly simply.

Either you sell your product, or you sell someone else's product.

When you sell someone else's product, and you are compensated in some way for the sale, then you have rules you need to follow.

These are DISCLOSURE RULES.
Any time you receive something of value, before or after the sale, you must disclose that fact.

I know right?

Anything of value includes a free dinner, free swag, free services, a year of cost-free membership...ANYTHING of VALUE.

It's pretty easy.
So now we know when we need to disclose something, who has to follow these rules?

EVERYONE.

Let me say it again for the people in the back...

E V E R Y O N E.

There are, literally, no exceptions in the rule.

Sorry bro. You must disclose.
So what does a proper disclosure look like?

We don't have much guidance in the way of examples from the FTC.

But you are required to disclose your RELATIONSHIP to the company / product.

If you receive a commission, SAY THAT.

If you got free stuff, SAY THAT.

Pretty easy.
When must you disclose?

As. Soon. As. Possible.

So if you tweet about the @lawrencekingyo kick ass email course....

And you use an affiliate link, you need to disclose your relationship IN THE TWEET.

#ad or #afflink may be sufficient. The FTC hasn't provided guidance. Yet.
But the safer play is to include "if you buy from this link I will receive a small commission".

Or any other language that conveys the same message.

I get it. How are you supposed to SELL and DISCLOSE in just 280 characters?
I suggest you have fun with the disclosure.

Make it playful, and remind people that if they buy from your link, they pay the same price, you get a small commission, and it helps you create more content that they love.
The reality is that people WANT to HELP people they LIKE.

TBH, some people don't even know that you're getting a commission on the sale.

But if they did, they would make sure to use your link.

If you have a great relationship with your tribe...
Then this can easily be a win-win.

It's all in how you play it.

We're going to leave it at that.

If this gets enough interest I'll do another thread on disclosures required for affiliate marketers that run paid traffic to advertorials, blogs, quizzes, etc.
That's a whole other world.

Enjoy! Have fun, play by the rules, and you'll have a long, financially successful Twitter career.

If you enjoyed this or found it useful, please retweet the first tweet in the thread. Thanks!
I won't call anyone out, but there are some of you gents that are playing with fire. I know @ROGUEWEALTH and others have warned ya'll. But please, play it safe.

Be Great. Do Good.
And now, for my disclosure: I am not your lawyer, and you reading this thread does not create an attorney-client relationship.
