One of the hardest lessons to learn as a writer is to shut the hell up. Being succinct is an art. Boiling a conversation down to its essence is a science. Any idiot can yammer on and fill pages with inconsequential chatter.
Comic fans often think “more is better.” They think more words is better writing and more lines is better art.
More words CAN be good of course IF they add something of value. If they’re words for the sake of words--less so. This is not a blanket condemnation of words in general but each word should have a purpose. If a page is more effective silent, the writer shouldn’t add words to it.
Similarly with art, some of the most untalented artists hide behind a curtain of lines, hoping you won’t notice how structurally unsound and poorly composed their drawings are.
