Too many uninformed have no real comprehension of the GB-FR agreement in Calais. I will make it simple.
GB rents a space called the "British Zone". It is policed by British border agents-not customs nor police. They cannot drive british marked vehicles, carry weapons, uniforms .
outside the zone. It is NOT customs control. It is always under French control in security ,smuggling, etc.
GB rents a shed and some land.
Perhaps @donnyc1975 could explain how it works in the reality.
The zone is limited to an area in Calais port. GB has no jurisdiction outside the well defined zone but relationships are good and unofficial intelligence shared.
As an aside. If someone gets in a rib in Dover there is no English law to stop the person going to sea. There is none in France either. Stop eejits saying "the French could stop them ". How ? For breaking no law ? For doing nothing wrong ?
