Why banning the mentally ill from gun ownership is actually dangerous (THREAD)

Let me start by saying I am not an NRA member or gun nut. I purchased my first firearm at 25 years old

However, I am familiar with power structures and how they can be manipulated
Most reasonable people would agree that prohibiting actually mentally ill people from gun ownership is sensible

The challenge then becomes how we define mentally ill

The grey areas surrounding mental illness have always been politically influenced
As we've come to realize over the years, big prominent institutions are not the objective, dispassionate entities they once plausibly were

Many have been hijacked by political radicals

And we already know the APA has an issue with men owning guns https://www.apa.org/pubs/info/reports/gun-violence-prevention
Take one small step to the left, & you can expect behavior we consider normal to be defined as mentally ill

Call your friend a sissy? You're toxically masculine. Banned

Get in a fight in middle school? Toxic. Banned

Want a gun for family protection? Conspiracy Theorist. Banned
So don't believe the seemingly no-brain issue of banning the mentally ill from gun ownership will actually do what it's claimed to do

Like most free lunches, this is certainly a Trojan Horse
