The ignorance of this tweet - and even bigger ignorance of most of the replies - is mind-boggling. First, most of the Channel migrants aren't Syrian; others come from Iran, Chad, Sudan, Yemen, Eritrea, Chad, Kuwait & Egypt (places the UK hasn't bombed) as well as Iraq. Second,... https://twitter.com/BenJolly9/status/1292875365422071811
those migrants who have fled Syria were rarely displaced by UK airstrikes: the main driver of flight from Syria is the Syrian government's own bombs as well as forced conscription. (Here are the biggest two surveys of refugees, both from 2015:
Third, it's clear in the replies that most comrades nodding along to @BenJolly9 don't realise he's talking about the vote on anti-ISIS strikes in 2015, which had nothing to do with "regime change". Not a single Labour MP voted for strikes on Assad when this was debated in 2013...
Fourth, the idea that "Blairites" and "war-mongers" are "now back charge" of Labour is undermined by the fact that Starmer, Shadow Foreign Secretary Nandy & Shadow Defence Secretary John Healey all voted with Corbyn against the strikes in 2015... https://twitter.com/BenJolly9/status/1292876278375370752
And then there's the weird misogyny. 30 of the 67 Labour rebels were women, but Ben mainly highlights the women, and the cranks in reply take it up a notch. What is it about women MPs that bothers these people so much?
And then there's the antisemitism among the replies. Apparently only Jewish money would make anyone do something as evil as vote for bombing ISIS.
(Weirdly, the exact same people who think the Zionists made some Labour MPs want the UK to take on ISIS suddenly support the war on terror when it's Russia or Iran bombing ISIS...)
Finally, this guy is obsessed with David Lammy for some reason. (Narrator's voice: Lammy actually voted with Corbyn and Starmer against attacking ISIS.)
