Instead of shouting at the “migrant invasion” headlines thrust your way, cast your eyes this way instead…

A short thread on language & framing of migrant destitution, #NRPF & good example of how we should all be working together to approach a systemic homelessness challenge...
Today European #EndStreetHomelessness partner @homelessnetscot launch their route-map on behalf of the #EveryoneHome Collective – 27 third & academic sector orgs that have come together during #COVID19 pandemic.

It sets out ambition & method to end #NRPF destitution & protect..
human rights in Scotland. Take a look here: https://everyonehome.scot/pdf/route-map-2.pdf
The first two words of the report are “People matter”, the second sentence immediately tackles the issue of trauma inherent in the postcode lottery of whichever place and situation we happen to be born into.
“No recourse to public funds” is a technical term but it is cruelty for many and it's great to see it framed so clearly in this report as “Destitution-by-design" (from a policy point of view) but also “destitution-by-intent” – in relation to specific trafficking and forced labour
Too many homeless orgs & LAs point to the policy black hole in Westminster as excuse for inaction. That’s why the ambition & vision of a partnership of 27 (!) Scottish orgs to “design-out destitution”, provide safe spaces, & unlock destitution through...
specialist legal advice, drawing together much needed funding, and ensuring our preferred future is one where people are included and involved in the solutions they need to end their destitution.
Great job @homelessnetscot... now who is offering a genuinely partnership-led vision and leading the charge to design a human rights based framework in England and Wales?
