The annual Posthuman Summer School starts soon and I’ll be sharing nuggets and thoughts for anyone interested :) As the theory can be quite imprenetrable here’s a short thread with accessible pieces on:

- what is posthumanism?
- and why is it relevant to education? 1/7
Here’s the very first blog I wrote back in 2015 - ‘Beauty and the Posthuman - which provides a very gentle intro …http://adventuresinlifelonglearning.blogspot.com/2015/09/beauty-and-post-human.html?m=1 2/7
Posthumanism first challenges who has historically counted as ‘human’ at all. It attempts to redress years of exclusion of anyone not deemed ‘normative’, according to eg Enlightenment thinking (see Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man (or Piaget’s child!) as an example of this). 3/7
The second element involves de-centering humanity, for a de-anthropocentrised world which doesn’t position ‘man’ as the pinnacle species where ‘...the lively world [is seen] as a storehouse of supplies for the elite.’ (Stacy Alaimo). 4/7
Posthuman education then, involves a shift from humanism to a celebration and promotion of ‘minority’ (minority not meaning number here but relating to historical exclusion/oppression). See also👇 5/7
If you fancy delving further, here’s a lecture I gave on Posthuman thinking and the role of art in teacher education http://www.kamranbehrouz.com/corpoanarchy/a-conversation-with-kay/ 6/7
And here’s a short video about how I’ve used Posthuman ethics in teaching 7/7.
