I went to bed early because I'm 137 and can't keep my eyes open past 10pm. I woke up and saw the discourse going on in our awesome community. As a writer with zero formal training who is now being read & validated by people I've looked up to for years, here's what I've learned...
Write a good story
That is LITERALLY all that matters. I've read and listened to all the things and I break ALL of the "rules". I will WE SEE you to death. I write in specific songs. I have artistic title pages. I use VO and flashbacks. I go over page count...

If you can manage to grab your reader by the eyeballs and use your storytelling to say, "You're not going anywhere so don't even think about turning away!", they'll be like, okay, cool. They will take the ride happily and not even notice whatever "rules" you broke.
I wish someone had told me somewhere within my first 5 yrs of trying to write screenplays to focus less on formatting and "rules" and more on how to tell a good fucking story. But that was my journey and I'm grateful for it. Happy writing and let's make it an awesome day!
