Querying authors: again, I beg of you, please don't post super-detailed information about your query process on social media. Being vague about professional matters is an important skill for your career. If you can't demonstrate restraint, you don't look ready for an agent
Querying is not some magical heroic quest that rewards the worthy and long-suffering. It's sending emails and waiting a LONG time, with maybe some revising in the middle. It's a boring yet stressful slog, often unfair
If you get a full request and you're happy, learn the skill of posting "A good day! Feeling positive about my hashtag writing!" instead of spelling out details.
Because a full request isn't a commitment to anything. It makes me really uncomfortable to see my request used to build up an author's platform when I haven't committed to the author
And there does need to be more transparency in publishing! But querying authors aren’t responsible for reforming the industry and have the least power to do anything about it.
Also, an author is running their own small business where they are selling the right to publish their work. Like with any business, there’s correspondence you keep inside your organization to promote your best interest
Again, publishing has some really messed-up systems. This advice is for authors dealing with the here-and-now of it.
