White people arguing about their feelings regarding the “from away” thing in Maine—and I have certainly been part of this idiotic charade—are HILARIOUS.
The whole “from away” thing is leftover Klan bullshit to allow some whites to believe they’re more deserving of this place than others. I was born in Massachusetts and always thought it was funny when [white] people would get upset and take the “from away” thing to heart.
I realize it’s weaponized, particularly against non-whites. But also I be always thought, “I decide, not you.” And if you’re really so worked up about me not being a Mainer as if you have some god-given authority, you can go fuck yourself.
But, deeper than all of that, the argument is a decoy. It’s a distraction from the fact that NONE OF THIS IS OURS. We’re all occupiers in one way or another, living on occupied territory.
I wish I'd used the word colonizers in here too, particularly for us whites.
