For #EpigraphyTuesday, the statue base of Cornelia, daughter of Scipio Africanus and mother of the Gracchi brothers. A later addition seemingly attests to the statue's creation by Tisicratis! Now in the Musei Capitolini.

Loving the discussion on the statue! The inscription potentially has a bit of an interesting history too. 2/

Originally it may have just included the reference to the #Gracchi, but after they fell out of favor in #Rome, that selection was eventually removed and the part about being #Scipio's daughter was added. 3/

The current inscription dates to the #Augustan period and includes both references. The 'opus #Tisicratis' doesn't seem to have been added until the 3rd century CE! 4/
