Positions and programs created from white guilt and public shame are designed to last only as long as the guilt and shame do.

Which is to say: not very long.
I'm not necessarily a person who's against participation in those programs or applying for those positions. A brief stint of prestige can lead to a longer, more stable job. Or, at minimum,it can be beneficial for professional development (particularly if you're new to the field).
It's just better for everyone (and especially the applicant), if they know exactly what it is: a short-term, performative solution to a systemic problem people aren't exercised to solve.
It's also good for the new hire to go in knowing exactly what it is so that when they're faced with resentment and dismissal-of-ideas and other slights from colleagues, they'll be well-prepared to respond.
